Computational Linguistics Team
(Team Leader: )[Est. 2001]

Computational Linguistics Team (CLT) functions as the Malayalam Computing Solutions Provider for the Government of Kerala and various other agencies in Kerala. Integration of Malayalam with IT is central to the objective of this Team. At the product level, the idea is to produce linguistically and culturally customized software. C-DIT has already produced Webdarshini (Malayalam web browser),

Chitrakkudukka (Clipart CD), Aksharavidya (Malayalam editor) and Chitravidya in this direction. The Team has also initiated a consortium of Malayalam software producers. The main areas of operation of this Team are research, production, publication, training, consultancy and service. The central motto of this Team is to globalize Malayalam through technology and localize technology through Malayalam.

1.	Integration of Malayalam with Information and communication Technologies.
2.	Production of linguistically and culturally customized softwares.

MAJOR PROJECTS

I.	Aksharamala CD : joint venture of C-DIT and C-DAC A font package incorporating 25 Malayalam fonts including 3 web fonts

Ente Malayalam :
An interactive Malayalam tutorial website which enables learning through simple games, tests and also provides useful information about the culture, history, literature and art forms of Kerala (www.entemalayalam.org)

Bharanamalayalam :
This CD incorporates commonly used Malayalam administrative jargon and official orders in the native tongue

Nila Official Malayalam Software :
Unicode enabled text editor supporting all available formats. Apart from the standard functions, the editor also has an exclusive function for sorting both natively and alphabetically. Supports inscript, phonetic and onscreen keyboards. Conversion tool converts documents from ASCII to Unicode.

Kaveri Free Malayalam Software :
1.Modified version of Open Office
2.Complete interface has been changed to Malayalam
3.Integrated Malayalam Spell Checker, Translation Assistant, Multilingual Keyboard, Office Content Management are the main features.

VII.

Periyar Malayalam Community Software : (Ongoing)
Malayalam Grammar Checker, Malayalam Text to Speech, Malayalam Thesaurus and a Universal font Converter are the components.

MISSION MALAYALAM Project

It is a five phase developmental project of Computational Linguistic Team of C-DIT.

1.	To globalize Malayalam through technology and localize technology through Malayalam
2.	It aims to develop Malayalam softwares which can be used in all Government Offices and by the general public.
3.	It has five phases namely – *Nila, Kaveri, Periyar, Kabani, Pamba*
