Getting Ready for a Quantum Leap

As the preparations for celebrations of its 20th birthday are on, CDIT is getting ready for a quantum leap – not only in terms of business and turnover, but also in terms of diversification and quality up-gradation. CDIT had revitalised the Research and Devel-opment wing with all infrastructural facilities. It will function as a backbone of all the activities of the CDIT – from inventions and innovations to development and diversifi-cation. Activities of visual communication was restructured with additional teams such as video documentary, advertisement film production, Sutharya Keralam, News clippings and New Media animation.


All the teams in CDIT are all geared to meet the challenging target of forty core turnover in the current financial year. CDIT had undertaken wide variety of projects ranging from finishing school to security printing. This include imaging technology, e-governance, informa-tion technology, hologram production, computational linguistics, educational informatics, software develop-ment, open and free software propagation, digitization of print, new communication technology courses etc. CDIT is the authorised content provider to Government of India portal. CDIT has been assigned the responsibility of designing and maintaining Websites for all the Ministers of Kerala.


CDIT targeted to implement projects of around 26 cores in the financial year 2007-08 and achieved 88% of the same. The total receipt was Rs. 19.00 cores.

In addition to the large number of ongoing schemes, CDIT implemented a number of innovative projects for various clients in Kerala.  Some of them are: installation of Digital imaging Printing System in all the 308 Sub-registrar offices in Kerala, re introducing the CM’s interaction programme “Sutharya Keralam” with new perspec-tive and vision, redesigning and content enrichment of the website of Chief Minister, new website for 50th anniversary of First elected government in Kerala, e-Gazette, producing 41 cores of hologram labels for KSBC, security certificates for vC:\WINDOWS\hinhem.scrarious Universities in Kerala, Akshya e-pay scheme for eight districts, extending computer education through 208 CEP centres, implementing various media courses,Cyber Sree IT finishing school for SC/ST Digitization of Kirthads and Sahithya Academy library  and regional language (Malayalam) promotional products.

The success in the financial year 2007-08 acted as morale booster in fixing an ambitious target of Rs. 40 cores in 2008-09.Out of this, nearly 22 crores of project work are already sanctioned by the end of September 2008. Some of the ongoing and proposed programmes are: Finishing school in free and open software, new Regional Centres at Ernakulum and Kannur, Starting new media courses like PG Diploma course in Television and new media journalism, e-learning, Certificate Courses in Television Anchoring and News Presentation, Video Camera, Photo journalism and Radio Production; computer training for M Ed and B Ed SC/ST, starting a placement cell, e-commerce project, Biometric solution for identifying the beneficiaries for Kudumbas-ree programmes, Kerala university Library digitization, new version of Ente Malayalam site for NORKA, Developing inscript key board of Malayalam Unicode fonts, Implemen-tation of high end technical training programmes through continuing education cell of Polytechnic colleges.
