CliCKThe first major initiative of the Computational Linguistics Team, the CLiCK project (Centre for Linguistic Computing, Keralam) is funded and catalyzed by the State IT Mission. The project aims to consolidate and coordinate the efforts at integrating Malayalam with IT. Standardization of keyboard, production of Unicode supported Malayalam fonts, evolving a corpora of Malayalam are the major projects. Training and workshops on Malayalam Computing are also part of this project.
FRIENDSA project that has brought laurels to the Team, FRIENDS has completed four years of successful operations. The fact that FRIENDS has been lapped up by the using public is demonstrated by its growing acceptance as a single window facility for multiple payments and also its replication in all the districts of the State. C-DIT has been providing software and hardware support for the project without the involvement of any external agency.The front-end computerization mechanism of FRIENDS took shape long before the conception of the idea of back end computerization. The dynamic nature of software used, responsive adoption of changes and realization of the fallibility of technology are the highlights of this project run by the Kerala State IT Mission. In view of its importance in collecting revenue for the Government and the acceptance received from the public, the Government has declared the FRIENDS software as protected system and only C-DIT is authorised to access and modify the software
www.entemalayalam.orgDesigned and maintained for NoRKA, Government of Kerala, this website provides a comprehensive facility for online Malayalam learning. Users have the opportunity to use and test their language skills.
www.clickkeralam.orgThe website www.clickkeralam.org recounts the information and tools related to CliCK, a joint project of Kerala IT Mission, C-DIT and the Department of Linguistics, University of Kerala aims at cultural customization of IT and the promotion of the vernacular language using IT
Paithrukam 1.1A digital archiving software for ready manuscript reference, Paithrukam 1.1 comes with features for cataloguing, indexing, searching and a provision for CD backup, ideal for manuscript libraries
WebdarshiniDeveloped as part of the Akshaya CD for making the people of Kerala e-literate, Webdarshini is the first ever Malayalam interface browser. Designed keeping an eye on the specific requirements of the Kerala user, this browser incorporates features like settings to access three predefined web pages. The user can access these pages just by using the tab button. Webdarshini also comes with a consolidated web directory (Web Soochika) to access pages to hundreds of useful pages, thus simplifying the search process. Webdarshini is available in both Windows and Linux versions.
www.keralauniversity.eduThe innumerable activities of Kerala University have been efficiently highlighted in this web portal. Attracting almost one-third of the daily visitors to the University office to get things done through the web, the official website of the Kerala University is rapidly emerging as a model academic website.
www.kerala.gov.inThe official web portal of the Government of Kerala with 20,000 pages carrying and attracting close to 1.5 million visitors a month is updated daily. This portal extensively but comprehensively detailing the social, economic, cultural and allied characters of Kerala also highlights the administrative set-up of the State.
www.swathithirunal.orgA comprehensive website on Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma (1813 – 1846), the former Maharaja of the erstwhile State of Travancore and noted composer and musician is available online at www.swathithirunal.org It is a joint venture of C-DIT and Vyloppilli Samskriti Bhavan. This website is envisaged in such a way as to make it a treasure chest of hitherto unknown and rare information on Swathi and his times. A photo gallery comprising of nearly 300 rare pictures, authentic articles and write ups on Swathi and related subjects, Swathi’s musical and other compositions, related institutions and events, resources on Carnatic music, composers and musicians, manuscripts of Swathi’s period etc. are the highlights of this site.
ManavodayamEssaying evolution, Manavodayam is an Indianised attempt at visually encapsulating the journey of life, drawing insights from Brownowsk’s masterpiece, “Ascent of Man”. This was C-DIT’s millennium project cataylised and funded by the National Council for Science & Technology (NCSTC). The 26-episode video series begins with birth of Universe and ends with considerations on 21st century. The series has been shot all over India and produced with archival material collected from abroad. Experts in science, humanities, social sciences were involved in the project.
SasthrakauthukamEncompassing the fields of science, technology, environment and health for telecast in the television media, Sasthrakauthukam was an avant garde project in taking science to the masses, this 22-episode video series was produced for Doordarshan Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram, contains 60 main stories in subjects like Digital Cinema’, ‘Mobile Phone Technology’, ‘Alzheimer’s Disease’ etc. and 22 tailpiece stories, which include soft stories like ‘why athletes are running in anti clockwise direction’. Sasthrakauthukam paves the way for common man to understand the science behind every-day topics and help him widen his horizons.
Akshaya IT Literacy Resource CDVisually and linguistically customised for the common man, the Akshaya IT Literacy Resource CD produced for KSITM, used by millions of people in Kerala to latch on to the Cyberage, is a path-breaking product. The design of the CD is pedagogically innovative & culturally and linguistically customised. This CD is available in both Windows and Linux versions. The State Level Executive Committee of the ‘Akshaya – Bridging the Digital Divide Programme’, chaired by the Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Sri P. K. KunjaliKutty has approved a proposal to expand the Akshaya IT Literacy CD into a Kaleidoscope of Edutainment for the roll out phase.
ChithrakkudukkaShowcasing ethnicity, the first volume of Chithrakkudukka CD has over 2500 images with audio visual effects leaving behind a lingering feel of Kerala at its natural best. A bewildering variety of images in Kerala architecture, furniture, jewellery, pottery, religious accessories, paintings, sculptures, festivals, rituals, flowers, birds, animals, food, vehicles, personalities etc. revolving around the cultural taste of Kerala are part of this Clip Art CD. It has a friendly interface to conveniently view and copy images and also to play and copy sound clips.
PadanakauthukamPadanakauthukam (joy of learning) is the result of synergetic partnership of C-DIT with district Panchayats. This venture to provide educational software for high school students was implemented by 8 district panchayats as part of the People’s Planning Campaign. The aim of the first phase of the project was to produce 15 video films of 20-25 minutes duration based on the “hard spots” in the textbooks of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Mathematics of classes 8-10. Padanakauthukam series seeks to encourage student’s curiosity and imagination by persuading them to observe and experiment the phenomena/concepts explained in the textbooks. The pilot episode on “Plate Tectonics” (Geography) titled “In quest of the inner secrets of the earth” was selected to the Competition Level at International Television Science Festival, Paris and at Roshd International Film Festival, Teheran. The video film on the nature of light titled “Let there be light” was also selected at the Roshd International Film Festival, Teheran.

On Fish and TalesThis short animation film conveying a serious message of avoiding juvenile fishing, in a lighter vein, was selected for the prestigious Tokyo Earth Vision – 12th Global Environmental Film Festival.
