The Computational Linguistic Team was constituted in C-DIT with the aim to function as the Malayalam Computing Solutions Provider to the Government of Kerala and various other agencies in Kerala. The main objective of the team is to integrate Malayalam with information and communication technologies. The central motto of the team is to globalize Malayalam through language technology for the benefit of the local users. At the product level, the idea is to produce linguistically and culturally customized software. The main areas of operation of the team are research, development, production, publication, training, consultancy and service in Malayalam language computing.

The integrated Malayalam Spell – Checker is the most notable feature of ‘Kaveri’. Like other word processing systems, ‘Kaveri’ will also underline misspelt words and gives suggestions. The Translation Assistant can perform English to Malayalam word by word translation which helps a user while preparing a document. The Multilingual keyboard of Kaveri supports Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam in two keyboard layouts – the Inscript and the Phonetic. The Indic language Transliteration helps in converting documents prepared in Malayalam to other language scripts like Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi and at the same time from other language scripts into Malayalam. The Office Content Management System of Kaveri has facilities where a user can save a document as office copy including details like subject, date, sender and recipient.
